Terms of Service
Last updated October 18, 2026
These terms cover using STLShelf: browsing, creating an account, downloading models, and uploading your own designs as a creator. By using the site you agree to them.
1. Accounts
- You must be at least 13 to create an account, and at least 18 to upload or sell models.
- Give accurate information and keep your password private. You are responsible for activity on your account.
- One person per account. Don't create accounts to get around a suspension.
2. Downloading models
Every model comes with a license chosen by its creator, shown on the model page. Downloading a file gives you the rights in that license and nothing more:
- Personal use: print it for yourself. Don't sell prints or share the file.
- Commercial prints: you may sell physical prints. Don't share or resell the file.
- Creative Commons: whatever the named Creative Commons license allows.
Files are for 3D printing. Never re-upload another creator's file here or anywhere else.
3. Uploading models (creators)
- Only upload what you own. At upload you confirm that you designed the model or hold the rights to share or sell it. Uploading someone else's work is grounds for removal and account closure.
- You keep ownership. You give STLShelf a license to store, display, process (for example, checking files and making preview images) and deliver your files to people who download or buy them under the license you chose. You can sell the same models elsewhere; there is no exclusivity.
- Proven to print. Each model needs at least one photo of a real print and the print settings you used. Render-only listings are not accepted. Models made with AI tools must be labeled as such.
- Brands and logos. Don't use car makers' or other companies' logos and trademarks without a license. "Inspired by" designs without logos are fine.
- Every upload is reviewed before it goes live, and we may decline or remove any listing.
4. Paid models and payouts
STLShelf is in a free beta: all models are free right now. When paid models open, creators will be paid through Stripe. The platform fee is 15% of each sale, or 5% for founding creators during their first 12 months. Full payout and refund terms will be published here before paid sales start. Refunds will cover files that are broken or don't match their listing.
5. Content that isn't allowed
- Files you don't have the rights to, including copies of other creators' work.
- Weapons, or parts designed to make or modify firearms.
- Anything illegal, hateful, sexually explicit, or meant to harass someone.
- Malware, or files that are not what the listing says they are.
6. Copyright complaints
We respond to copyright notices under the DMCA and close the accounts of repeat infringers. See our DMCA and takedown policy for how to report a model.
7. Ending your account
You can stop using STLShelf at any time and ask us to delete your account. We may suspend or close accounts that break these terms. Purchased files and licenses already granted stay valid unless they were obtained through a violation.
8. No warranty and limits on liability
Models are made by independent creators. We check files and require print photos, but we can't promise every print will succeed on every printer. STLShelf is provided "as is." To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or incidental damages, failed prints, or damage to printers or materials. Use care with heated and moving printer parts.
9. Changes
We may update these terms. If a change is significant, we will say so on the site or by email before it takes effect. Continuing to use STLShelf after that means you accept the new terms.
