Free Lithophane Maker: photo to lithophane STL
A lithophane is a thin plate whose thickness follows a photo: thick where the picture is dark, thin where it's light. Print it in white and hold it up to a light, and the photo appears. Add your photo below, set the size, and download the STL.
How to use it
- Click to add a photo (JPG, PNG or WebP). It stays on your computer; nothing is uploaded.
- Set the width in millimetres. The height follows the photo's shape.
- Set the thickest and thinnest points. 3 mm and 0.8 mm are good starting values.
- Download the STL and slice it standing upright or flat, with 100% infill.
Printing tips
- Print in white or natural PLA. Coloured filament hides the picture.
- Use 100% infill and a fine layer height (0.12 mm or less) for smooth shading.
- Pick a photo with a clear subject and good contrast. Faces and pets work well.
- Printing it upright gives the finest detail; flat is easier and needs no supports.
Questions
What settings should I print a lithophane with?
White PLA, 100% infill, 0.12 mm layers or finer, and slow outer walls. Print upright for the best detail, or flat if your printer struggles with tall thin parts.
How thick should a lithophane be?
Around 3 mm at the thickest and 0.8 mm at the thinnest is a good start. Thicker gives more contrast with a strong light behind it; thinner suits a weaker light.
Is my photo uploaded anywhere?
No. The lithophane is built in your browser and your photo never leaves your computer.
Can I sell prints of the lithophane?
The generator's output is yours to use for anything, including selling prints, as long as you have the rights to the photo you used.
